Capitol pen and inked

So I’ve traveled around the world a couple of times and I like to remember where I’ve been and I’ve essentially been to Washington DC four times and I think I’d like to try to draw a few of my highlights. So essentially, here’s my version, now, I’ve taken a couple of liberties due to the size of the paper I’ve used but here you go; If I’m honest though, the Capitol building looks so much better from the inside. The fresco under the rotunda is amazing! Check this out, really, it looks fantastic:

But anyhow, here’s my attempt to draw the building by pencil itself:

I’ve tried to not make it look too much like the Riechstag…which I’ve been in as well but hey, here you go.

That sphinx, some reckon he’s a bit of a cat :D

So my last sketch before I went home last night was of the Sphinx in Giza, which is far smaller than you might think!….I touched it’s paw and I just couldn’t believe, considering it’s age, how great it looked….Sans the nose.

It’s absolutely dwarfed by the pyramids in the background but it looks amazing.

Painting Palin with Pencil

As an avid traveler under 40 in the UK, I’m required to be a massive fan of Michael Palin…and I am, he’s an absolute hero of mine and whenever I get the chance to draw him…I do; I’ve met him several times and seen his stage show but what amazes me most about him are his travels. He’s been everywhere from the Amazon to North Korea (and pretty much everywhere in between); he’s aped Phileas Fogg and Livingstone and done it all in a very charming, British manner…so I’ve tried a new technique here; I’ve shaded the shadows and pretty much the whole drawing before I inserted a few lines mainly for the eyes…and here he is

Niagara falls is so misty!

Hey, so I’m stuck at home and got thinking about my first trip abroad alone and this was Toronto and while in Toronto, it’d be a crime not to visit Niagara Falls….So I did….and I thought “I’d like to draw what I remember and also practice drawing mist which I hear is best done using a technique called stipling and so I used that and I think my results here are okay but here it is:

My attempt at Big Ben

So I’ve been practising my penwork with a few natural scenes like waterfalls, bridges and trees and then after this I’ve tried to draw Big Ben…I really need to visit London again soon but here you go, here are some of my latest sketches…

I’ve tried to go a bit “Quintan Blake” on the above doodle.

Traveling through Egypt

Hey, so last year I took a week long trip from Cairo down to Abu Simbel near the border of the Sudan. I took a train from Cairo to Aswan but before that saw the pyramids. I’ll show you a photo below but I’m thinking of drawing a portrait of either the pyramids or the Sphynx (which is a lot smaller than you might think) I went at quite a dangerous time as the incident near Sharm-el-Shiek happened but believe me, the Egyptians I met whilst visiting were amazing and sailing up the Nile in a Felucca, meeing and having dinner with a Nubian family and riding a hot air balloon over the valley of the kings and lots of other things were all utterly amazing and there’s just so much to see there….Anyhow, here’s a couple of photos.

I did this all with a company called G Adventures who were amazing.

Arise Sir Michael Palin, you absolute legend!

So I’m so chuffed for my traveling hero and comedic legend, Michael Palin that he’s finally being knighted for his services to travel and global information (as opposed to just comedy). He’s been absolutely everywhere (including North and South Poles and Korea’s!) So I thought I’d post up one of the photos of the time I got to meet this amazing fellow….Just, please…ignore my stupid hat! :s

Yes, please excuse the silly hat but I was growing it a bit long back then.
