Happy birthday David Jason!

So all my life I’ve been a massive Only Fools and Horses fan and after visiting the Leonardo Da Vinci exhibition in town today and then looking at some Andrew Gormley sculptures as well as attending the Chinese New Year celebrations, I thought I’d see if I could draw the star of Only Fools, Del Boy himself, David Jason to commemorate his 79th birthday….so here it is:

A study of white chalk on black paper

So I’ve just finished my Tony Stark project but saw a most excellent tutorial on drawing Thor on black card but felt I’d like to try my own example and, well, here you go….

I think this looks awesome and took me not long at all so I’ll have to try more of this.

Drawing Tony Stark in charcoal

Hey, so after my lesson last night on chalk and charcoal drawing, I thought I’d have a go at another tutorial on portraits in that medium and as I’ve given it a bit of a rest so far, here’s what I’ve got at the moment (I bought some fixative for when it’s finished so it doesn’t get messy).

And yes, I do have Avengers bedsheets…Thanks mum :s

Drawing the Mona Lisa

Hey, so it’s been another day stuck in bed after my operation so I’d been thinking again of where I’ve been. To get to my brother’s wedding, I once caught the train from Southampton in England to Barcelona in Spain and stopped in Paris on the way. Whilst in Paris, as everyone should, I stopped in the Louvre to see the Mona Lisa of course and she….A bit daring I know since she’s a Da Vinci masterpiece….was the subject of today’s sketch and I’m sorry I haven’t got up to use my scanner and have just taken a photo…but here it is:

She needs work, but I’m reasonably happy with her so far.

Drawing Emilia Clarke…

So I’d just finished my two drawings yesterday and had a look on instagram and noticed this absolutely stunning photo of the beautiful Welsh actress Emilia Clarke and thought “Well, I’m gonna have to try to draw that now aren’t I?” This is a spur of the moment portrait and usually I’d spend much longer…especially on the mother of dragons herself but here you go….I’ve also added a touch of colour in the second one:

Here you go; I do like what they’ve done with her hair.

I also tried to add a bit of colour but I always end up a bit like a black and what photo that’s been coloured in:

See what I mean?

And here’s the photo it’s based on…..

She just looks fantastic.

Drawing George Harrison

Hey, so George was always my favourite Beatle….he just seemed very nice and had a wicked sense of humour….he also funded a lot of Monty Python movies so I thought I’d sketch him…and here he is….my view of him anyhow….

I think he looks quite serious here but he’s got a cheeky smirk there too 😀

My attempt at Big Ben

So I’ve been practising my penwork with a few natural scenes like waterfalls, bridges and trees and then after this I’ve tried to draw Big Ben…I really need to visit London again soon but here you go, here are some of my latest sketches…

I’ve tried to go a bit “Quintan Blake” on the above doodle.

Mean Gene Okerlund

So it was sad to hear that Mean Gene Okerlund; an absolute legend in my youthful days of watching 80’s and 90’s WWF wrestling so I felt I should pay my respects and I’ve drawn a quick sketch; hope it’s okay.

“Well, ya know sumthin’d Mean Gene!!” – Hulk Hogan

Iceman Michael Jones pen and ink

Kia Ora! So have you been to New Zealand? If not, why the devil not? Go! It’s beautiful!…Seriously, I love the place and return as often as I can and whenever I’m in Auckland, I stay in Mount Eden near the All Backs home stadium of Eden Park. Now, outside the ground there are loads of statues and sculptures but one always catches my attention. It’s of Michael Jones almost defying gravity by flying through the air to grab the ball…which is amazing….and…well….I have a new thin pen so I thought I’d try a quick pen and ink of him….

Please excuse my notes but they just help me to remember

Here’s what it actually looks like
